Awesome Day

Today I started my three-day work as one of the volunteers for the Language, Culture, and History Conference organized by the Anthropology department at the University of Wyoming. It was a great conference with a very intimate setting (I always love small conferences!) and I learned a lot especially about the complexity of language preservation.

The conference's keynote address

But the event was even more special because Dr. M, the organizer of the conference, decided to invite the Wyoming Gamelan Chandrawyoga to perform in the conference dinner party at her house, which was this evening! Yaaaay!

So after we were done with rehearsal, we moved our instruments to the car and off we went to Dr. M's home (oh, and D went with the group, nice!). We drove about nine miles out of town to the great plains. Her home was literally in the middle of nowhere ;), surrounded by breathtaking scenery. It was a really beautiful home with the electricity came from wind and solar energies! Seriously, for lack of a better word, it was a cool house. Check out some of these pics:

This is her porch. Can you imagine waking up to this?

View from the dining room. Hmm... having tea every morning in this room?

Greek salad, one of the foods served at the dinner

Haha.. I almost forgot that we went there to play gamelan. Some of the members of Gamelan Chandrawyoga, chatting before enjoying dinner.

And finally, it was time to play.
So thankful for Indonesia, for rich and beautiful music ^^
(this pic was taken by keisha. thanks a lot!)
