D and I are excited about the possibility of finding a church we can call home in this town. Having been living here for five months now, we were almost desperate trying to find a church we could get involved with. Come on, note on beauty, it is not that hard! Oh yeah, it actually is. We actually don't have a list of requirement about what we want from a place of worship. Rather, it goes back to how we actually experience a change from space into a place.
We visited several different places during the last five months.
The very first one was a big "institution," very popular in this town.
We then visited a close-to-campus one, and found out that it lacked diversity. The place was mainly filled with young, white American students (and I would guess mostly single). We felt we were one of a kind in that place if you know what I mean.
The next one was my personal number one favorite. It was lively, the people were super nice, and I completely loved the teaching. We were one of the only two married couples, though. Just to emphasize, there is absolutely nothing wrong with being married or single. It is just nice being able to visit with other families with similar needs and availability of time and activities. Still, I loved this one place.
We went to at least a couple different places and again, we experienced the place as not a space for multiple, different identities.
Anyway, we just visited a different institution yesterday. The moment I entered their door, my heart was beating faster. Could this be it? Could this be love at first sight? Haha. In the big room, there were flags from many different countries, including Indonesia. There is a service in Spanish for Latino/Latina community in the town. I.love.it. We'll see how it turns.
Have a wonderful day.
Aw.... can I be in the church with a lot of singles??? Hahahaha..... :D
