A Second Chance

Among things that I would like to do in the field of education, I really want to give people a second chance. Or a third chance. Or maybe forth. There are people who in the past could not see how important education was for their lives (Yes, it might be true that we make formal education too hard, too expensive, too demanding, too exclusive - but that is worth another discussion). These people skipped classes, dropped out, all because they wanted to, not because they had to or because they did not have enough money or other resources. When they regret their decisions and want to start anew, our societies often close our doors to them. We say they are too old, they did not use their chance, it's too late, or in Indonesian language "rice has become porridge." We say there is nothing that they can do but accept the reality and (bad) fruit of their past decisions.

I believe in the essence of education as changing people's lives through what they read, sense (with all senses here), and experience.
I long for education that allows people (especially ones I mentioned above) to learn from who they were and what they did, appreciate who they are, realize what/who they can be,and work together with all available means to realize the ideal.
I believe in education that accepts where people are in the beginning and makes sure they stay strong and grow much stronger at the finish line.
